Why Nutrition Coaching?

Because quite simply diets don’t work. Or they might work for a little while, but inevitably the weight comes back on when you stop dieting (or fall off the diet wagon for the hundredth time). This program works differently by addressing underlying habits and psychology surrounding food, as well as providing education about sensible, sound and scientifically based food choices. Through the lessons and our discussions, you will tune in to your body and address the triggers that often lead you to make poor food choices then develop resiliency and skills to bounce back when you have setbacks. There is no quackery here. No extreme diets and no magic pills. 

No cookie-cutter programs

I've been coaching people for long enough to realize that one size does NOT fit all. Nutrition is more than calories in and calories out. People are unique with different body types, metabolisms, time constraints and struggles. Eat Paleo? No problem. Vegetarian – yep that's fine too. I don’t prescribe a particular way of eating, nor recommend a specific brand of supplements. Programs are structured to include your preferred food choices and lifestyle. 


Working with my coach, I feel more confident in my food choices and more in control of my emotional eating. In the past, I would feel overwhelmed after a few months then begin self-sabotaging my efforts. Now Laurel helps me understand why I do this and discusses techniques to use when I feel that way.

Do I have to pay for the phone consultation?

No. This is a just a way for us to chat briefly about you. This will provide me insight into what has been holding you back from meeting your goals long-term then strategize what small, simple steps you can take immediately to start seeing improvements and feeling better. Once you click the consultation link, you will be directed to a page where you can schedule a call with me. I will call the phone number you enter at the scheduled time.

How much time will I have to dedicate each day?

It really depends on where you are starting, but if you are serious about jumping in with both feet, you will have to create time to prepare healthy foods, move your body, get enough rest etc. For some that will look like 15-30 minutes, for others (who may be a little further off the path of health) it may look like a bit more. But, please…keep this in mind…I am a HUGE advocate of small incremental changes compounded over time. I promise that between the ProCoach database and my coaching you will have tremendous support and the information will be delivered to you bit by bit to ensure your success.

How is this program different from others?

This is not a diet, bootcamp, or quick fix. This is a process that teaches you how to take care of your health through nutrition, activity/exercise, self-care strategies. You will learn how to live well without restrictions or diets by developing the strategies and habits of living a healthy lifestyle. This process is gradual and manageable so you can achieve your healthy weight and maintain it for life.

Is this a good program if I already consider myself to be uber healthy and fit?

It definitely was for me, but everyone is different and this is something we would discuss during our phone consult. Personally, I thought for years that I was healthy and fit because I exercised regularly, ate well some of the time, and maintained a healthy weight. BUT I kept hitting a wall with my personal goals and improvements. If you workout a lot but you are feeling less than stellar… then, yes, this program is for you. Or if you feel that you eat well, but don’t feel like you are thriving, this program is for you. To be honest, I have worked with many athletes and fitness enthusiasts who had one area of health and fitness dialed in but struggled in another aspect which prevented them from feeling great or reaching their full potential.

Will you be giving me a meal plan to follow?

Meals plans are synonymous with diets. This is not a diet. I will send you monthly recipe packs with suggested menu scheduling and meal prep. This will provide you a framework to follow at your desired pace while you learn about food quality and quantity. You will develop new lifestyle skills that are necessary to get you the results you're after.

Will I need a gym membership to do the workouts?

No. ProCoach will give you options daily for how you would like to follow your workout program. Your customized workout is conveniently delivered to your "Home Page" in ProCoach so you can follow and track your progress directly from your PC or mobile device, and can be printed as well. Each workout has an option to be completed in the gym, at home, and even a shortened program for the days you don’t have as much time. Awesome, right?!

12 months seems like a long time. Does it really take that long?

Based on continued research, experts have found a full year to be the most effective time period for building the habits necesary for lifelong health and fitness. Sure, we've all made changes, met goals or lost X amount of weight within a few weeks or months, but true success is when the weight stays off even after 1 year. For this reason, the program is designed to strategically lead you through a full year of lessons, habits and coaching to lead a happy, healthy life without stressing over dieting ever again. There are some individuals who have a pretty solid foundation and only want to break through plateaus or certain obstacles holding them back whether dietary, stress-related or through their fitness program. During our phone consult, we will determine what plan would be best for you then reassess periodically to get you where you want to be.

Will I have to spend a lot of money on food and supplements?

When it comes to food, most clients actually end up saving money on their grocery bills. You will learn to make more informed, careful decisions, eat out less, and spend fewer dollars on processed novelty foods, replacing them with whole, delicious natural foods. As for supplements, we may recommend a few health-oriented products, based on your unique needs and goals. However, these are completely optional and success will come regardless of whether you choose to use them or not.

I'm thinking of joining with a friend or partner. Can we do the program together?

Of course. We encourage friends, partners, and family members to join together. That immediate social support makes a huge difference for a lot of people.

What if I don't have much weight to lose but just want to eat better?

Great, since this is not a diet or weight loss program you're in the right place. Lifelong fitness and health is more than losing weight. With Precision Nutrition Coaching you’ll learn how to maintain a healthy (and lean) body for life. You’ll discover how it feels to be more physically capable, more confident, and stronger — inside, and out. Plus you’ll develop a new, healthier relationship to food and eating. And that’s something fewer than 5 percent of people know how to do.

Why coaching? Can't I just pick up a diet book or read some online articles?
